Tonight is the perfect evening for a "cuppa joy". Grab one and lets chat. Have you notice how critical we are of ourselves? You know what I am speaking of. How we often compare ourselves to others, whether it is our looks, life, occupation, productivity, the choices we make; the list is endless needless to say. Not really sure how that gets programmed into us; it could be a number of things. Many studies report it is the bombardment of social media and constantly comparing our accomplishments to those around us. Others say the media has photoshopped images to the point we are obsessed with looking perfect, or failing miserably. I believe it is a little of both: environment and internal. We all hear a tiny little voice, whispering to us. It may be the voice of a parent, sibling, friend, or stranger that slammed us with unkind words. Repeating it to the point we begin to doubt ourselves. This negative self talk is damaging to our psyche and well-being. Being a firm believer in affirmations, I am here to say to you: "Smile, You Are Beautiful!" Kind words whether spoken or written, have a positive impact on our mental well-being. Passing this theory along, I began writing this on outgoing packages. The feedback from the recipients has been positive. Even the transport carriers have stated how it makes them smile when they read it. Today, someone shared with me how special it made them feel. This was heartwarming and made me happy to give someone else a smile. Did you know it takes 12 positive comments to counteract 1 negative? Reinforce your day with positives. Give yourself a break and celebrate the accomplishments. Many of us have perfectionistic tendencies and can be overly critical to point we become paralyzed and overwhelmed; myself included. Having learned to make lists and prioritize has been the key, plus remembering to Smile! I challenge you to write out 12 affirmations, read them to yourself daily and when you pass your reflection in the mirror repeat after me: Smile, you are beautiful!
