The Challenges of Sourcing Local Ingredients

Hola! Have you had your "cuppa joy"? I had 2 actually, so I am extra joyful. Today is being celebrated as Back To The Future Day, but I thought it would be fun to go back in time and share with you about our first product we ever made; Ava Bayba Goat Milk Soaps. Oh, how we love goat milk soap and the creamy, decadent lather it gives back when you bubble up! Goat milk soap wandering thistle studio

The plan was to share with you about sourcing local ingredients for our Goat Milk soaps. While checking facts of my supplier, to make sure to give you all the correct details, I discovered there will be upcoming changes. Screech! My heart skipped a beat for about a second. Taking a deep breath, then realized they have to do what is best for their family and I applaud them for making that difficult choice. Allow me to introduce you to Micheal and Sarah Ferris. They are a hardworking couple operating the family business of Homestead Farms, that originates back 125 years. They offer raw milk almost daily in their country storefront; along with fresh-cut herbs & vegetables from their garden, and other offerings from local farms. They also have grass-fed beef, fresh eggs, jams, whole grain breads, kombucha, & local honey. The change comes about as they have decided to slowly phase out the goat dairy and increase awareness and activities with their agritourism program.

"Our passion at Homestead Farms is to educate the families in our community about farm life and where their food comes from."

During this past spring the Ferris family planted a "you-pick" field of blackberry bushes as a part of the expansion. Nice!! You must check them out soon, as their Harvest Days are happening October 4-31. Definitely a family friendly environment, plus pumpkins!! Ranging from $2-12 each. The kiddos love being at the farm and you get to help a local farming family continue to grow. Here is the link for more info on the Celebration. Needless to say, I will be stocking my freezer with their goat milk in order to continue to offer your favorite Goat Milk Soap. Sarah assured me she would connect me with another local source whenever the times comes.  I did mention I like challenges, right? wander. explore. create. enjoy. ~ TheresaTheresa Wandering Thistle Studio 1459x1469
